McLeansboro Not Moving Forward on Changing Gaming Ordinance

MCLEANSBORO – The McLeansboro City Council did not discuss the possibility of changing an ordinance to allow gaming within the city limits at Tuesday night’s meeting.

According to McLeansboro Mayor Chad May, the item was on the agenda as requested by the Finance and Insurance Committee.

The mayor says Martin and Bailey, who operates a Huck’s convenience store in McLeansboro, had met with the Finance and Insurance Committee to discuss gaming expansion. The committee was initially split in their opinions and felt it would be best presented to the full Council. The Council offered no discussion and the motion failed to move forward.

The mayor says had there been discussion, opinion swayed to expand gaming and the process would begin to change City Code to allow for that type of license to be issued. That process involves a few months to complete given that you must read the proposed ordinance change one month and then you can approve the change at the meeting next month.
