MCLEANSBORO – The McLeansboro City Council accepted the resignation of Ward 3 Alderman Lucas Jones at a special City Council meeting Thursday afternoon at City Hall.
McLeansboro Mayor Chad May says with the way he is going to be approaching things as mayor, it’s going to require some really active council members and a lot of time to achieve what needs to be done.
Jones recently met with Mayor May and told him he’s excited to see the direction the mayor wants to take the city toward. But Mayor May says Jones has realized that he’s not really able to support the time it’s going to take to help the mayor with his plans.
Jones was elected to the Ward 3 Alderman seat in April’s Consolidated Election. He was unopposed and replaced Richard Lasswell, who did not seek another term.
Jones’ resignation was effective Monday according to the meeting’s agenda. Mayor May expects to name Jones’ replacement by the July City Council meeting.
Jones is the second alderman to resign this month. Dale Biggerstaff stepped down as an alderman in Ward 3 earlier this month so he could take a new job in Tennessee.
