Maunie Woman Sentenced to IDOC on Drug, Retail Theft Charges

CARMI – A Maunie woman was sentenced in White County Court in Carmi Wednesday to the Illinois Department of Corrections on two drug charges and for retail theft.

According to White County State’s Attorney Denton Aud, 31-year-old Charley Jo Buchanan was sentenced to 5 years in IDOC for Possession of Methamphetamine – a Class 3 felony, 5 years for Retail Theft – a Class 4 felony and five years for Possession of Controlled Substance – a Class 4 felony.

Aud says Buchanan had been placed on probation for Possession of Methamphetamine and Retail Theft in 2019. Buchanan was arrested in June 2021 for Possession of Controlled Substance. Her prior probation sentences were revoked with the sentences to the Illinois Department of Corrections being entered in all three cases Wednesday. Buchanan was arrested by the Carmi Police Department in all three cases.
