MARION – The Marion Unit 2 School Board Wednesday night decided Sara Baker’s fate during a special meeting at Marion High School.
Baker, who serves as the girls’ track coach at the high school, has been in the news recently after she allegedly made a “racially insensitive” remark toward a student at the high school. There have also been protests calling for Baker to be fired over the matter.
The school board told Baker she will have to go through race sensitivity training that’s required by the school district. Baker will also have to resign immediately as the girls’ track coach and will transfer to Adams School to serve as physical education coach there next year.
Baker will remain on paid administrative leave through the rest of the school year.
