Marion Fire Department Nonresident Fees for Department Service Going Up

MARION – The Marion City Council Monday night approved an ordinance increasing fire department nonresident fees for department service.

According to the ordinance, any nonresident of the city who receives service from the city fire department personnel and city emergency equipment, including the “jaws of life”, while within the corporate limits of the city shall pay a fee of $1,000. This is an increase from $500.

The ordinance also says any nonresident of the city who receives service from the city fire department personnel and city emergency equipment, including the “jaws of life”, outside the corporate limits of the city shall pay a fee of $2,000. This is an increase from $1,000.

This is the first time the city has increased its fees since the original fees were established in 1994.

The ordinance also says the number of calls and requests for services for interstate travelers and accidents have increase requiring an increase in use of equipment and personnel in addition to increased costs for purchase, care, and maintenance of Marion Fire Department apparatuses and equipment. The City wanted to make sure the ordinance reflected the increased use and costs more accurately.
