Man Arrested in Thursday Afternoon Shooting at Benton/West City Walmart

WEST CITY – West City Police Thursday afternoon arrested a man after receiving a 911 call about the man firing a firearm in the northeast corner of the Walmart parking lot.

Police Chief Joseph Moyers says officers responded to the area around 4:45 p.m. and located a vehicle that matched the description given from the 911 caller.

Officers from West City and Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies were able to quickly and effectively take the man into custody without incident. Officers located a pistol in the man’s vehicle. Witnesses to the event were able to verify the vehicle and the man as the one involved in the shooting. No one was hurt during the incident.

West City Police, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Benton Police Department all responded to the incident and contributed to the investigation. The investigation is still considered ongoing. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty. The man’s name was not released.
