MT. VERNON – The Mt. Vernon Fire Department reminds you that leaf burning will be permitted starting Monday and going through Sunday, May 15 between the hours of sunrise and sunset on each of those days.
According to a press release from the fire department, no burning shall occur upon any public street, public sidewalk, drainage ditch within the public right-of-way nor any manhole cover or upon the property of another without written permission.
All types of fires must be physically attended to by a person at least 18 years of age at all times.
Burning of any kind may be prohibited during any permitted leaf burning period by order of the Fire Chief due to high winds, dry conditions or other factors.
