Lane Reduction for U.S. 45 Ohio River ‘Brookport’ Bridge Inspection Begins Today

BROOKPORT – Traffic will be down to one lane on the U.S. 45 Ohio River “Brookport” Bridge starting today to allow for a detailed inspection of the bridge structure.

According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet office in Paducah, this work zone is expected to be in place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day for about a week. You should use appropriate caution where equipment and inspection personnel are along the bridge deck. Traffic delays are likely in this work zone.

Due to equipment required on the bridge deck to facilitate this inspection, there will be an enhanced enforcement presence in this work zone. Any trucks attempting to illegally cross the Brookport Bridge will be issued citations.

All Kentucky bridges are subject to a detailed inspection every two years with long-span river and lake bridges getting an additional annual walk-through safety check annually. The dates for these inspections are prescribed by the Federal Highway Administration.
