Jury Finds Jonesboro Man Guilty of Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine

JONESBORO – A Union County man is set to be sentenced in November on a meth charge.

According to Union County State’s Attorney Tyler E. Tripp, 35-year-old James Lee Smith of Jonesboro was found guilty Thursday after a two-day jury trial on one count of Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine, a Class 3 Felony. 

Smith was arrested in June 2021 by Union County Sheriff’s deputies following an investigation. Deputies found methamphetamine in Smith’s home in Jonesboro. 

A sentencing hearing has been set for Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. Smith, being a convicted felon, faces between two to ten years in prison or up to 30 months probation. 

The case was investigated by the Union County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Jonesboro Police Department.
