Illinois DCFS Kicks Off Child Abuse Prevention Month

CARTERVILLE – The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is kicking off Child Abuse Prevention Month.

While the most horrific cases of child abuse garner the most media attention, Jackson County Presiding Circuit Judge Christy Solverson says they’ve seen a big increase in neglect cases due to parents being addicted to drugs and alcohol or living in poverty.

If you suspect a child is being abused or neglected, you can call the state’s hotline at 1-800-25-abuse or file a report on the DCFS website.
