Homicide Investigation Underway after Deadly Weekend Shooting in Johnson County

ULLIN – Illinois State Police say a homicide investigation is underway in Johnson County.

According to a press release from ISP, late Saturday night ISP Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 7 in conjunction with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office investigated a shooting that happened in the 6000 block of Dutchman Lake Road.

Fifty-one-year-old Joseph E. Geyman of Tunnel Hill suffered injuries sustained by gunfire and died. The suspect, 68-year-old Larry D. Cavitt of Goreville, was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder (Class X Felony). Cavitt is in custody at Massac County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.

ISP says no further information will be released at this time.
