HERRIN – Herrin High School was placed on a temporary lockdown following an incident Friday morning.
According to Herrin Police, a Herrin High School substitute teacher exhibited strange behavior in a classroom around 7:35 a.m. where no students were located. Another teacher noticed the behavior and notified the school administration and subsequently the Herrin Police Department. No students were present in the classroom and no students or staff were injured in any way.
Herrin Police responded immediately and were on the scene around 7:40 a.m. and made contact with the substitute teacher in the classroom. The substitute teacher was ultimately taken into protective custody by officers and taken to Herrin Hospital’s emergency department without further incident. The school was then placed on temporary lockdown but was lifted. Students resumed their normal school day.
