Grayville Man Sentenced to IDOC for Forgery, Criminal Damage to Government Property

CARMI – A Grayville man was sentenced Wednesday in White County Court to the Illinois Department of Corrections for forgery and criminal damage to government property.

White County State’s Attorney Denton Aud says 36-year-old Nicholas Lofton will spend four years and 10 months in IDOC and serve one year of mandatory supervised release following his time in prison on both charges.

Lofton was on probation for the forgery case from 2017 when he committed the new offense of criminal damage to government property in Grayville. This led to his probation being revoked with the new sentences being entered. His cases will run concurrently with a case out of Edwards County.

The Grayville Police Department was the investigating agency in both cases. Public Defender Brian Shinkle represented Lofton. Judge T. Scott Webb was the presiding judge.
