CARMI – Physicians, providers, and Ferrell Hospital leadership broke ground Monday on a new facility for Ferrell Hospital Carmi Family Medicine.

The building, which will be located near Walmart on Highway 1, will be named the Absher Family Health Center, in honor of a financial gift by the Henry and Jane Absher family. Ferrell Hospital Carmi Family Medicine will be the primary providers within the new facility.

“This gift from the Abshers has improved both the scope and speed of this new clinic,” said Alisa Coleman, CEO, Ferrell Hospital. “Because of their generosity, this project is able to take place now, rather than in the distant future. The clinic will be larger and more comprehensive, so that people in and around Carmi will receive exceptional care in a beautiful modern building for many years to come.”

The new facility will be 7,600 square feet—40 percent larger than the current clinic—with 15 exam rooms, compared to 9 in the current space. These improvements will allow more providers to practice on-site at one time, and allows dedicated space for specialists to provide patient care on rotating days of the week. Specialists who will practice in the new space include cardiologists, podiatrists, and ENT physicians, with room to add more specialists in the future. An onsite x-ray and lab will also be included in the new building.

Danco Construction is the general contractor for the project, which is expected to be completed this fall.
