CARMI – An Enfield woman was in White County Court in Carmi Monday after being apprehended on a failure to appear warrant Friday that was issued after she failed to appear for her sentencing hearing on Monday, May 2.
According to White County State’s Attorney Denton Aud, Crystal Bridges had previously been convicted of Possession of Methamphetamine, a class 3 felony, and Retail Theft, a class 4 felony, on Aug. 26, 2019 and sentenced to 30 months of probation. Bridges was adjudicated in November of last year of having violated her probation. Ultimately, the matter was set for resentencing with May 2nd being a date set for the hearing.
After Bridges failed to appear at her sentencing hearing and following the arguments of her attorney, Public Defender Brian Shinkle and State’s Attorney Denton Aud, Judge T. Scott Webb sentenced Bridges in her absence to 9 years and 11 months in the Illinois Department of Corrections, a month less than the maximum allowed under the law.
The Carmi Police Department was the original arresting agency that arrested Bridges in August 2019.
