CARMI – A Carmi man was sentenced in White County Court in Carmi Wednesday to the Illinois Department of Corrections on meth charge and for unlawful use of property.
White County State’s Attorney Denton Aud says 26-year-old Melvin Lewis was sentenced to 5 years in IDOC with 1 year of mandatory supervised release for unlawful use of property – a Class 2 felony and 5 years for Possession of Methamphetamine – a Class 3 felony.
Aud says Lewis was on probation for Possession of Methamphetamine from a 2020 case when he was arrested for Unlawful Use of Property and other methamphetamine related offenses in June 2021. His probation was revoked with the sentences to the Illinois Department of Corrections being entered Wednesday. Lewis was arrested by the Carmi Police Department in both cases.
