CARMI – A Carmi man was sentenced in White County Court Thursday to the Illinois Department of Corrections on drug charges and for obstructing justice.
According to White County State’s Attorney Denton Aud, Austin O’Dell was sentenced to six years in IDOC with one year of mandatory supervised release for Possession of Cannabis more than 5,000 grams – a Class 1 felony, six years in IDOC for Obstructing Justice – a Class 4 felony and three years in IDOC for Possession of Cannabis – a Class 4 felony.
Aud says O’Dell was on probation for the Obstructing Justice and class 4 felony Possession of Cannabis for cases from 2019 and 2018, respectively, when he committed the newest offense of possessing more than 5,000 grams of cannabis. His probation on the prior offenses was revoked with concurrent sentences entered to run concurrently with the sentence in his newest case.
The State dismissed Class X offenses related to possession of cannabis with intent to deliver and trafficking cannabis in exchange for the guilty plea and joint recommended agreement.
The Southern Illinois Drug Task Force was the investigating agency responsible for the investigation and arrest of O’Dell in Carmi in May of 2021.
