CARMI – A Carmi man will spend 12 and a half years in prison after being sentenced for residential burglary – a Class 1 felony – in White County Court in Carmi Wednesday.
According to White County State’s Attorney Denton Aud, 39-year-old Jesse G. Stephens will also serve one year of mandatory supervised released following his time in prison.
Aud says Stephens had previously been allowed to be on Drug Court in this case. However, he was ultimately unsuccessfully discharged from Drug Court and arrested on new charges in January of this year that are currently pending. He’s presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Stephens was ultimately set for resentencing Wednesday after being found to have violated Drug Court probation. Stephens was originally arrested by Carmi Police Department in April 2021.
