Carbondale Man Faces Gun Charges in Late August Shooting

CARBONDALE – A Carbondale man is facing gun charges in connection with a report of gunshots being fired in the 700 block of South Lewis Lane on Aug. 28.

According to Carbondale Police, officers did not locate anyone injured, but they did locate property damage to a home. Further investigation led to the identification of the suspect as 29-year-old Josten T. Denwood of Carbondale.  

Last Thursday, officers saw Denwood in a vehicle, and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle in the area of Main Street and Lewis Lane. Denwood fled from the vehicle on foot and was eventually captured by officers after a foot pursuit. A handgun was located in the vehicle from which Denwood fled.  

Officers charged Denwood with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon, Resisting a Peace Officer, and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm. Denwood is lodged in the Jackson County Jail. The SIU Carbondale Department of Public Safety assisted with the arrest.

Carbondale Police continue to investigate the incident.
