MT. VERNON – Bond was set at $100,000 Thursday in Jefferson County Court for a 21-year-old Mt. Vernon man accused of making a string of bomb threats to area businesses in the last month.

Raymond Needy was advised in court of the six Class 1 felony charges against him of making a false terrorism threat and the possible sentencing if convicted.

Prosecutors claim Needy made recent bomb threats to Continental Tire, Walmart and Dollar Tree over the past month.

Mt. Vernon Police thanked Continental Tire and Walmart for their assistance into the investigation. The day before Needy’s arrest, Continental Tire had announced they were offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the bomb threats.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office assisted and worked in conjunction with Mt. Vernon Police on the investigation.

Needy is next scheduled to appear in court May 4 for a preliminary hearing and a first appearance with his court-appointed attorney.
