Benton City Council Makes No Decision on Jail Museum Stipend at Monday’s Meeting

BENTON – The Benton City Council made no decision on a stipend request from Robert Rea for the Franklin County Jail Museum at Monday night’s meeting.

According to City Clerk Brook Craig, the city paid the jail museum $500 a month to help with operating costs, but that was stopped due to budgetary reasons. The museum has asked the city to start this again as an investment in the community.

The Council heard Rea’s presentation regarding the stipend, but City Commissioner Cathy Ann Garavalia said she wanted to look into getting the budget balanced and see where the city is at then before a decision is made.

In other business, façade projects for Bain & Associates, LLC on South Main and Kimmel Insurance on West Washington Street were approved. The Council also agreed to advertise for mowing bids for Benton Municipal Airport and to purchase 4,000 gallons of aviation fuel.

As for a new drop box at City Hall, Commissioners Ian Zane Perkins and Lee Messersmith will be taking over research on the drop box.
