BENTON – The Benton City Council Monday Night approved two projects for Benton Municipal Airport.

Public Property Commissioner Ian Zane Perkins says the city recently got approval from IDOT for both projects. One involves remarking the runway.

Perkins mentions how much this project is going to cost.

The other project involves rehabbing the main ramp area. Perkins informed the council about the price tag for this project.

A new terminal has also been constructed at the airport. A ribbon cutting has been set for Friday, April 23 at noon.

The City Council also approved two road closures for events Benton Consolidated High School will be putting on.

One of those events – the homecoming parade – will begin at 2:30 Thursday afternoon on Industrial Park Road. The road will be closed from the Elks Club to north of the water tower from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

East Main to the Benton Square will also be closed for the graduation parade on Saturday, May 15 at 9 a.m. The road will be shut down from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Council members approved putting the Fiscal Year 2021-22 budget draft on display for the public to view at City Hall.

Finance Commissioner Cathy Ann Garavalia says if anyone has any questions about the budget, they can have them addressed at City Hall.

Garavalia told the Council that she and another commissioner discussed the possibility of having a special meeting and asked the Council if they would like to have the opportunity to discuss the budget.

Streets and Public Improvement Commissioner Lee Messersmith shared his thoughts regarding this meeting.

The Council agreed to have the special budget meeting. It will be held Monday night at 6 at City Hall. The public is invited.
