ALTO PASS – The annual Easter Sunrise Service at the Bald Knob Cross of Peace is set for April 17.
According to the Bald Knob Cross website, this is the 86th year for the event that started in 1937 when a small group of Southern Illinoisans gathered on top of Bald Knob Mountain to host an Easter Sunrise Service with hopes of bringing people together in a spirit of Christian unity. That same group later developed a vision for Bald Knob Cross. And today, the long-standing tradition continues, and that monument stands as a testament to their hard work and sacrifice.
Gates will open at 5 a.m. The service begins at 6:30 a.m.
Food trucks will be on-site at the event.
