BENTON – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Rend Lake is hosting the annual Beach Blast at South Sandusky Beach from 12 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Join Rend Lake Park Rangers for a day of water safety fun in the sun. Beach Blast features the best of beach day activities. There will be beach games, a DJ with family friendly music, a sand sculpture contest, helicopter landing, and a special appearance by Bobber the Water Safety Dog. Local emergency response personal will also be on site for other fun hands-on demonstrations.

Sesser Fire Protection District will display their firetruck and let kids look inside, Abbott EMS will be onsite with an ambulance and provide hands-only CPR demonstrations. The Mt. Vernon Army Recruitment team will be onsite to interact with beachgoers. The Air-Evac Lifetime 35 will land a helicopter near the beach around 1 p.m. and allow kids to climb inside for a photo-op! To top it off, Big Nate’s BBQ food truck and G’s House of Flavors Snow Cone truck will be onsite.

Day use fees at the South Sandusky Beach will be waived for Beach Blast, so this event is free and open to the public. This day is fun for all ages, with activities designed for kids. Beach Blast is one of many programs in the Rend Lake Environmental Science Series, which features free programs every Saturday from Memorial Day through Labor Day at the Rend Lake Project Office & Visitor Center. All programs are open to the public, and children must be accompanied by an adult. The Environmental Science Series continues Saturday, June 17 at the Rend Lake Project Office & Visitor Center with the Journey to the Center of the Earth show.
