MURPHYSBORO – Jackson County State’s Attorney Joseph A. Cervantez announced Monday that several individuals have been indicted by the Jackson County Grand Jury. Cervantez personally presented the following cases to a Jackson County Grand Jury on Thursday.

Thirty-seven-year-old Dewayne E. Jones, Jr. of Carbondale was indicted on two counts of First-Degree Murder, one count of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, and one count of Unlawful Use of Weapons by a Felon, for his involvement with a May 1, 2023 shooting incident near 700 South Lewis Lane in Carbondale which resulted in the death of Rayshawn Simon. Jones is currently being held on a $2 million bond.

Twenty-four-year-old Jeffery Jermaine Harris of Carbondale was indicted on one count of Aggravated Battery, and one count of Unlawful Use of Weapons by a Felon, for his involvement with a May 1, 2023 incident near 700 South Lewis Lane in Carbondale. Jones is currently being held on a $100,000 bond.

Twenty-nine-year-old Dominique J. Smith of Carbondale was indicted on two counts of Armed Robbery, and one count of Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking, for his involvement with a May 5, 2023 incident near East Grand Avenue in Carbondale. Smith is currently being held on a $500,000 bond.

Thirty-two-year-old Jamir Jordan of Markham was indicted on two counts of Armed Robbery, one count of Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking, and one count of Unlawful Use of Weapons by a Felon for his involvement with a May 5, 2023 incident near East Grand Avenue in Carbondale. Jordan is currently being held on a $1 million bond.

Twenty-one-year-old Jaiir E. Crim of Carbondale was recently charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, and Unlawful Use of Weapons by a Felon his for involvement with an April 23rd, 2023 shooting incident near 607 East Park Street in Carbondale. He is currently being held on a $250,000 bond.

Cervantez thanks the Carbondale Police Department for their dedication through the investigations. He also thanked the community for their concerns and for their cooperation. Cervantez emphasized that an indictment is merely a charge and not evidence.
