MT. VERNON – SSM Health Illinois launches a new Volunteen program to provide high school students the opportunity to experience different departments in healthcare.

Students will be assigned to various areas within the hospital at either SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon or SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia. Students will be placed based on their career interests and include some of the following departments: pharmacy, emergency, sleep centers, patient floors, lab, imaging, environmental services, nutrition services, and more.

“We are hopeful that the Volunteen program will provide a deep look into healthcare for students considering healthcare as a career.” States Kristi Sherrill, Director of Human Resources for SSM Health Illinois. “The Volunteen program is also a great opportunity for students to volunteer and give back to their community.”

The program will run June 5 to July 14, 2023. Students will be asked to volunteer 2-3 days a week for 4 hour shifts.

Students can apply online or call 618-899-1068 for more information.
